A Worthy Sacred Way to Live Your Life

acting Jul 03, 2023

Actors, when you start to notice the ordinary, like a serene pond, and truly experience it in a way that feels alive, it's akin to planting seeds. These seeds gradually grow, little by little, and they deeply nourish the soil of your heart and soul. This richness and the ability to embrace the small things is what fuels your creativity and makes you an artist.

The capacity to appreciate those minute details that most people may overlook because they're too busy or moving too fast is also your responsibility. It's why they come to watch you in a film, theatre, or listen to your play. You have the privilege of experiencing layers of existence that others may never even glimpse. And that's where humility comes in. It's okay if they don't perceive it; it's not their role. But it is yours—to see and feel deeply.

Personally, I find myself constantly experiencing things on multiple levels. It's a constant internal dialogue between my body, imagination, and mind. Over time, I've learned to embrace this as a humble practice of acceptance. Previously, it used to frustrate me because I longed for someone to share in what I saw and felt. I desired for them to witness and experience it too.

But then I came to realise that not everyone is on the same journey as I am, striving to become the artist I aspire to be or already am. So most of the time, I'm engaged in this internal process on my own. And that's okay. Instead of seeking validation, I've made it my mission to nurture my own empathy, compassion, and vulnerability.

Maintaining these qualities is not easy; it requires consistent effort and self-care. However, I firmly reject the notion that love cannot coexist with our artistic endeavours. On the contrary, I have witnessed how love brings a profound depth and complexity to our craft, enabling us to embrace paradoxes and hold much more within ourselves.

Acting is a practice of compassion. It entails immersing yourself in the life and world of another person, moment by moment, planting the seeds for their reality to grow. As you embody their experiences, you are also able to feel and experience them within your own being. It is a sacred and worthy way to live your life, embracing the artistry that comes with such deep connection and understanding.
