Why the voice is the most intimate part of acting

acting voice Nov 17, 2022

If the voice is seen only technically, it's problematic because fundamentally the voice is the most intimate part of your acting and it is the thing that takes the longest to really sit in.

And it's probably the final thing that comes to you as the actor when you're creating the story.

It's the most fundamental. It's the one that tells me whether I believe you or not.

And the voice is to do with the micro movements in your body and how your breath the ability for your breath to be free to move as you move and respond. And therefore that requires a lot of orientation, a lot of the nervous system feeling trusting enough so that it can be vulnerable.

The vulnerability then is expressed and felt through the tone of the voice.

Like if you look at the actors that you love that are really good, it is in their voices because you can't see the voice. It's invisible. And the voice is at the crossroads of the mosaic.

The voice is the music that expresses what's happening in your internal world in response to your external world. And I'm saying that the voice is also a physical action. It's also how you move your body affects your voice.
