Why art in times of conflict is really important!
Apr 23, 2026Actors, remember art in times of conflict is really important!
The significance of your art form is enormous, because you’re in a world that does trial by social media, trial by content, trial by what I think about someone, what I believe about someone or, trial by how I feel about someone.
You have to slow down to include both because that’s much harder.
You can’t be righteous when you have to include both. You can’t be right or wrong.
And that’s really difficult for people, because most of us have been educated in a system that says it’s right or it’s wrong. This person’s right, this person’s wrong. And hence the reason why we live in such an extreme polarized system right now.
And that’s why art, in times of conflict, is really important, because it is designed to be human and have this complexity.
And that’s what I want you to really work to really practice, and notice your own complexity. Notice other people’s complexity, not as something that’s wrong with them but something that’s actually interesting about the human condition. Can you pay attention to that?
It’s not easy what I’m asking. But I am asking for a more, a deeper level and this is a deeper level.
If you want to expand and learn more about my holistic approach to acting, The Creative Path™: The Actor’s Practice to the Integrated Actor, weaving somatic awareness, emotional resilience and creative freedom.
