I would highly recommend it!! Hugely freeing as an actor and makes the accent part of you rather than something imposed!

I was very impressed with the course and how each class was structured! Good practice was emphasized by the daily warm up (which I am using every day) which led into the vocal work.

My eyes were opened to the importance of grasping the physical aspect of the accent ( I would have gone down the route of imposing the musical aspect with great difficulty) and the importance of opening up the vowels into space which in turns opens everything up i.e. emotions and thoughts. I have been astonished this week at home how much more natural and at ease I am with the accent and the piece. This course has made a huge difference to my work and this is before any rehearsal with the director!Ā  A great course led by an expert in her field! I would highly recommend it to anyone who respects their craft.

Helena is a really great teacher and is very skilled at imparting the key points on how to create a General American accent.Ā  Within an hour of this workshop, all of us were using the physicality tips she taught us to successfully produce the 'right' sound.Ā  As the hours went by and we became more adept at producing the Gen Am short and long vowel sounds, everyone continued to improve and it all became much more natural and easy.Ā  I'd definitely recommend a workshop with Helena.

I really found Helenaā€™s character voice for animation classes inspiring and helpful to me, not just as a voice artist, but as an actress too. I loved how everyone in the class could comment and give feedback to each other in an honest and positive manner.Ā

I canā€™t wait to put these techniques into practice and I plan to be back with Helena to get some more lessons soon. We can never stop learning!

Thank you Helena!

"Helena, thank you so much for last week's Speaking With Clarity Online Workshop.Ā  I thoroughly enjoyed the week and have continued to bring the skills that you taught us into my daily life.Ā  It was more than just speaking with clarity that I took from the workshop, more of a lifestyle change!Ā  I have learnt to relax before I talk at work and at home and have managed to slow down my speech with the use of the techniques that you gave me.Ā

I will definitely be enrolling in other online workshops with you.Ā  Thank you so much, Iā€™d 100% recommended for ANYONE to do this course!"

The General American Course was an enjoyable one where I learned a lot. Identifying and noting physicality associated with different sounds with the accent was really helpful. Each class focused on a different aspect in minute detail. The course was very comprehensive.Ā

Still Got Questions?

MY LAST PIECE OF ADVICE

In practice, we open space for story to happen.

Being in story requires experiencing it, which is very different to analysing it.  For stories to emerge imbued with complexity, you need to offer your body the initial conditions of safety and pleasure - so then you can risk and discover and surrender to the unknown.  Trusting your embodied imagination reveals the story to you - so you and the audience are constantly surprised.  We practice until it happens.
